Ritu Sethi

Ritu Sethi (LL.B) (Hons)

Ritu qualified as a solicitor in 1990 and an Officer of the Supreme Court. She became an equity partner in her previous practice in 1992, one of the youngest equity partners of her time. She practiced as a Criminal Defence solicitor in most of the London Police stations and Magistrates courts defending on some ground breaking cases . During this time, there were no role models and no-one she could turn to as a mentor. Ritu took a leap of faith and set up her own practice; in May 1994 named The Sethi Partnership Solicitors. She started a new chapter in her life, by re-inventing herself and becoming her own role model and mentor. She is the founding partner, spearheads the practice and is the COLP & COFA champion for managing financial and risk affairs for the firm.

She was the presenter of the ‘Chai with Ritu’ programme on Sky TV from October 2006 until January 2007. This was a series of 13 programmes which Ritu hosted on the British Asian journey featuring people from all walks of life. She is a frequent guest on radio discussing legal issues.

She has excelled in the legal world and is a leading lawyer being recognised by her peers in winning many awards and was voted amongst the Top 10 Women Lawyers of 2016 at the Law Society Awards and won the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019 .

Ritu believes in giving back to the community and ensures that the firms ethos is adhered to. She is an author of a bestselling book on “Having it all “ written as a guide to work life balance .

  • 2008 – Won the ‘Business women of the year’ at the Asian Women Awards as well as the Professional excellence awards at the Lloyds TSB Jewel Award.

  • 2006 – Branched out to TV and hosted a 13-weeks show entitled ‘Chai with Ritu’.
  • 2004 – Celebrated 10 years of the firm in the legal industry. 2003 – Awarded the Asian Business Woman Award.

Ritu has a generous nature and is a philanthropist in terms of promoting the welfare of others via generous donations whether it being with her time or money to good causes. The firm has supported Legal Walk, St Luke’s Hospice, Barnados, Domestic Violence, Widows, NSPCC, Red Nose Day, SWAT – feed the homeless.

Ritu has featured in numerous local newspapers and publications such as Tycoon Magazine, Uxbridge Gazette, Asian Voice, Recorder, Asian Wealth magazine, and India Link. Ritu took some time out of her busy world to train as a fitness instructor and to write a book on her journey. Too many young ladies feel that they have to choose between family and career and Ritu’s motto has always been that you can have both; in other words, you can have it all. In 2013, she published her book on “How to be a Super Woman and having it all”. As a result, she was awarded ‘Author of the best inspirational book’ by IBBF in London Parliament. As a regular speaker and commentator, Ritu has presented her own television show ‘Chai with Ritu’, interviewed on TV on a show called ‘Achievers’ and presented on the BBC Radio London.
